CONCORD, N.C. (May 29, 2016) – It was a short race for NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) driver Ray Black Jr. at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as a broken oil line at Lap 25 ended his day early and relegated the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet to a 37th place finish in the Hisense 4K TV 300.
Black was looking forward to competing at Charlotte, as he recently secured his career-best NXS finish at Dover and had multiple fan appearances and events lined up to kick off the race weekend.
With the support of his SS Green Light Racing team, the XFINITY Series regular was also excited about logging 200 laps at the 1.5-mile track, as it’s a challenging place for competitors but also somewhere the 24-year-old driver was looking forward to improving at.
Once the green flag dropped on Saturday, Black began making forward progress from his 32nd place starting position and racing between 26th and 28th place. Unfortunately, just after Lap 20 Black reported that he thought his motor was going to fail. A caution came out on Lap 25, allowing Black to bring his Chevrolet to the garage where the team determined an oil line had broken, which was why it felt as though the engine was going to blow. The team was unable to repair the oil line and return the track.
“It’s a bummer to have our day cut short like that,” said Black. “The team fought really hard all weekend to get the car ready and dialed in for the race. I honestly think we had the speed to grab a Top-20 here if we had been able to survive and stay out of trouble on the track. It just wasn’t our weekend but we’ll back at it next week at Pocono.”
Black and his team will be back in action next Saturday, June 4 for the Pocono Green 250 at Pocono Raceway.
