Ray Black Jr. Experiences Highs and Lows of Superspeedway Racing at Daytona International Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.  (February 21, 2016) – It was an up and down NASCAR XFINITY Series opening weekend for driver Ray Black Jr. at Daytona International Speedway this past weekend. The driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Camaro found speed at the start of the weekend, but ultimately fell short of Victory Lane when team errors on pit road caused him to finish the Powershares QQQ 300 in 33rd place.

Black was fast early in the weekend, finishing second in the final practice session on Friday. He also ran the second fastest lap in the first half of the race.

Unfortunately, a team error for having a crew member over the wall too soon on pit road caused the No. 07 to have to serve a pass through penalty and fall a lap down.  Additionally, with just about 20 laps to go, Black’s Chevrolet Camaro ran out of gas and had to be pushed back to pit road to re-fueled and re-fired.

“It was a tough weekend,” said Black. “We had some really great speed in practice and the car really sucked up to others well in the draft, so I had high expectations as to how the team and I would perform in the race. Unfortunately, it just didn’t go our way this time around. We have some kinks to work out, but we’ll get there.”

While it’s not the finish he or the team were hoping for, Black is confident they can rebound at their race next weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“I’m looking forward to getting to Atlanta and rebounding from this weekend,” he continued. “I really enjoyed that track last year, so I’m ready to get back out there. We’ll regroup as a team and be in contention for some great finishes before we know it.”

Black and Team Scuba Racing’s next event will be the Heads Up Georgia 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on February 27 at 1:30 p.m. In the meantime, learn more about Ray Black Jr. and Team Scuba Racing by visiting www.rayblackjr.com and www.teamscuba.com.
