Ray Black Jr. Looking Forward To Debut At Charlotte Motor Speedway

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Rookie Sits 9th in Championship Points

PALM COAST, Fla. (May 12, 2015) – Ray Black Jr. hopes to kick off his birthday week with a solid finish in his debut NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Silverado team is based in nearby Mooresville, NC and is excited to be racing at a track so close to home.

Black, who will turn 24 on Sunday, feels confident that he and his team can finish in the Top-10 even after coming off a 21st place finish at Kansas Speedway due to a mechanical failure.

“We will definitely be trying for a Top-10 finish at Charlotte. It might be a lot to ask for, but seeing how Kansas went, I know we can pull out a Top-10,” said Black. “We were able to learn a lot and improved throughout the weekend. We ran Top-15 most of the time, it was just circumstance that had us not finishing well. I’m not too hurt about it. It didn’t affect us that badly in the points.”

Black is looking forward to racing in the state he has recently bought a place in. He’s already seen the benefits that living in such a motorsports-focused area can have on his career.

“It has definitely helped me. When I’m there I go to the shop every day and spend time getting to know the team and other drivers as well.  I love the community. It’s kind of like a big melting pot of people,” he said.  “I really like the downtown area, where the NASCAR Hall of Fame is and all those shops and BBQ restaurants.  I was looking into the Charlotte Knights baseball team. I might try to go to a baseball game during the week if they are in town.”

Black expects Friday’s race to be good one, especially since NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Kasey Kahne, will be in the field.

“It’s pretty cool to have some of the Cup drivers race with us,” he said. “You can learn from them and see what they are doing differently in their truck. It would certainly be cool to beat them in a race.  That would be fun to say.”

The NC Education Lottery 200 will air on Friday, May 15 at 8:30 pm ET on Fox Sports 1. The race will also be broadcast by MRN Radio.
