NASCAR Driver Looking to Explore More Than Just Race Tracks During West Coast Swing
FLAGLER BEACH, Fla. (March 2, 2016) – As NASCAR prepares to head out west for three weeks straight, NASCAR XFINITY Series competitor Ray Black Jr. is excited to have the opportunity to explore new sights both on and off the race track. The driver of the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet will be staying out on the west coast for the duration NASCAR’s annual three-week trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway and Auto Club Speedway.
“I really like the fact that NASCAR has bundled the three west coast races together,” explained Black. “It gives myself and the team the chance to stay out there for a while and see and do things we don’t always get to do during race weeks. I’m excited to find a few places to get out and go hiking, possibly catch a Spring Training baseball game and hang out in Hollywood for a little. It’s a unique atmosphere to be in for three weeks!”
As Black describes the West Coast Swing as a chance to get out and explore more of the cities and visit with fans there, he also has a few unique opportunities already lined up for his trip.
“Vegas should be a great start to the swing,” he stated. “It’s such a fun town where there is already something new to do or see! This time around there are a couple celebrity poker tournaments I’m looking to compete in. Then in Los Angeles I’ll be attending a taping of Jimmy Kimmel Live, which is something I’ve never done before and am looking forward to.”
Of course, Black is also making sure to not lose sight of the main reason for his trip out west, as he prepares to race at three unique tracks on the NASCAR XFINITY Series circuit. Last year in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, he had a strong race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway when he finished 13th.
“We had a fast truck at Vegas last year,” said Black. “We really hit it on the setup right from the start. This time it will be a whole different type of race being in the Camaro, nothing like it was last year just due to the difference in handling. Timing is what seems to be the biggest difference between the trucks and cars, so the team and I will have to work hard right from the start to repeat our success from last year. It’ll be a good challenge for us!”
The Boyd Gaming 300 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will go green on Saturday, March 5 at 4:00 p.m. ET. Fans can watch live on FOX Sports 1 or listen via the Performance Racing Network.
