Ray Black, Jr. was born in Montgomery, Alabama, and relocated to Florida at the age of 9. As a child growing up in Florida, Ray Black Jr. developed an early love for being around the water and spent most of his free time with his dad learning about deep sea diving. It was this love of diving that would later lead Ray Jr. to develop  Team Scuba. Ray Jr. got his first taste of racing playing games on PlayStation®. At the age of 14, Ray Jr. decided he wanted to have a serious go at professional racing and began to invest all of his free time in developing his knowledge of the Florida racing circuit and the Florida Late Model racing series.

After researching the industry and numerous visits to the track with his father, they felt the Florida Mini Cup Racing Association (FMCRA) was the best match. Ray Jr. and his dad went to driver and crew chief school, hired a company to custom build a car / chassis and got all the safety equipment needed to compete in the FMCRA Series. This is where the real racing education began!

Just three races later, Ray Jr. won his first heat race and went on to win the next race while competing against seasoned veterans. The victory proved that Ray Jr. had both the passion and natural ability to be competitive in the professional racing circuit.

With talent and determination, Ray Jr. took the Florida Mini Cup Racing Association Junior All Star by storm. At the age of 14, he finished in the top five in every race he competed in and the team secured the Championship for the FMCRA Junior All Star. Ray Jr. also captured the 2006 Rookie of the Year title.

By 2013, Ray Jr. had moved up to pro late models, where he won the feature race after sitting on the pole for the season-opener at Five Flags Speedway. In 2014, Ray took the next step of his career as he moved into the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for SS Green Light Racing.

Competing in seven events for the veteran team, Ray Jr. completed 92% of the laps he attempted and brought home a pair of top-20 finishes.

In 2015, Ray Jr. competed full-time in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driving the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Silverado. 2016 will mark Ray Jr.’s rookie year competing in the NASCAR XFINITY Series driving the No. 07 ScubaLife.com Chevrolet Camaro for SS Green Light Racing.
